“I Am Still Buzzing”: A Trainee’s Reflections on Module Two of the INPP Postgraduate Course
This account is shared largely in the trainee’s own words, to preserve the authenticity of their experience and the impact the week had on them both professionally and personally.
“One of the most rewarding and interesting weeks of my life”
The trainee described Module Two as:
“One of the most rewarding and interesting professional and personal weeks of my life. I am still buzzing.”
Although they expected the week to be interesting, the depth of learning and engagement went far beyond what they had anticipated:
“I knew it would be interesting, but I truly was not expecting this.”
This sense of surprise speaks to the immersive nature of the training and the way it connects theory, practice, and personal insight.
Teaching That Makes Learning Stick
A strong theme in the feedback was the clarity and care with which the teaching was delivered. The structure of the sessions was described as highly effective:
“Pauline would first present a test, then demonstrate it with a volunteer, and then we would move into small groups to practise ourselves.”
This progression from explanation to demonstration to hands-on practice allowed learning to become embodied rather than abstract. Ongoing support during practice was also highlighted:
“During this time, Pauline would walk around the room, offering advice, guidance, and thoughtful suggestions.”
Rigour Balanced With Humanity
The trainee described the teaching approach as both precise and deeply human:
“Her approach to teaching is quite remarkable, almost humanistic, if that makes sense.”
They noted the emphasis on correct terminology and theoretical understanding:
“She is meticulous in teaching the correct terminology and theoretical framework, and her depth of knowledge is very clear.”
At the same time, the training addressed the realities of professional practice:
“She offers incredibly valuable insights into the practical realities of the work, from relational aspects to issues of safety and necessary bureaucracy.”
This balance ensures that practitioners leave not only informed, but genuinely prepared.
Feeling Supported as a Developing Practitioner
Perhaps one of the most powerful elements of this feedback was the sense of personal and professional support:
“I felt genuinely supported by Pauline.”
The trainee felt it was clear that the intention of the training went beyond delivering content:
“It was very clear that she truly wants us to become competent practitioners.”
They also reflected on the deeper motivation underpinning the course:
“I strongly felt that, at heart, her deepest motivation is to help as many children as possible.”
A Framework That Supports Individual Practice
The diversity of professional backgrounds within the group was seen as a strength rather than a challenge. The trainee described being given:
“A powerful and generous framework, and then encouraged to find our own ways of integrating it into our practice.”
This was particularly important given the range of professions represented:
“Teachers, psychologists, doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and others.”
Rather than enforcing a rigid model, the course supported thoughtful integration within existing professional roles.
Structured, Yet Open and Evolving
Another aspect that positively surprised the trainee was the balance between structure and openness:
“On one hand, the programme clearly reflects decades of refinement and experience.”
They experienced the method as:
“A highly structured, carefully designed approach.”
Yet this was paired with a genuine openness to learning and development:
“There was a real openness to exploration, learning, and evolution, as should be the case in any field that is alive, developing, and open to external contributions.”
The trainee summed this up as:
“A combination of a solid, safe framework with a genuine openness to integration and learning from different professional perspectives.”
Training That Shapes Practice and Purpose
Together with the feedback shared in our previous blog, this reflection highlights the core strengths of the INPP Postgraduate Practitioner Course: clarity, depth, rigour, and humanity. Module Two is not simply about learning assessment procedures; it is about developing confident, reflective practitioners who are equipped to work ethically and effectively with children.
We are grateful to trainees who take the time to share their experiences so openly. Their voices provide valuable insight into what it truly means to train within the INPP framework—and why structured, well-supported professional development matters.
